Response of hoary alyssum (Berteroa incana L.) to UV-B radiation

Acta Agrobotanica , 2012, DOI: 10.5586/aa.2012.059
Abstract: This greenhouse experiment evaluated the response of hoary alyssum plants, up to the rosette phase, to different levels of UV-B radiation. The experiment was carried out in the chambers, equipped with UV-B lamps, emitting biologically effective UV-B radiation of 0 (control), 4, 6 or 8 kJ. As a result, specific traits of the plants such as: leaf number, lamina length, leaf area, specific leaf weight, relative chlorophyll content and shoot biomass were unaffected by any of the UV-B treatments. Significant reductions in the share of large leaves, leaf stalk length and root biomass were noted for plants growing under 8 kJ UV-BBE.
Effect of matrix powder and reinforcement content on tribological behavior of particulate 6061Al

- , 2019, DOI: 10.1177/0021998318796172
Abstract: In the present work, 6061Al-TiB2 composites were synthesized using two types of base 6061Al powder (prealloyed and premixed) through powder metallurgy route. Dry sliding wear test was performed on the specimens using pin on disk apparatus to investigate the effect of TiB2 content on tribological characteristics. The microstructure, worn surface, and subsurface were also characterized using scanning electron microscope to examine the wear mechanism of prealloyed- and premixed-based composites. A mathematical model was developed using parameters (composition and applied load) to predict wear rate and correlated with experimental results. Adequacy of developed model has been validated using analysis of variance. Results indicated that premixed 6061Al-TiB2 composites have superior tribological properties as compared to the prealloyed 6061Al-TiB2 composite

Abstract: Tea (Camellia sinensis) is one of the most important economic crops. Being perennial in nature, tea plant often experiences natural drought, which affects its growth and productivity. The present investigation was undertaken to understand the mechanism of post-drought stress recovery on rehydration and the effect of nutrients in the recovery process of the selected clones of Camellia sinensis L. (TV-1, TV-20, TV-29 & TV-30). The results demonstrated that decrease in relative water content (RWC), dry mass of leaf and antioxidants like-ascorbate and glutathione in all the tested clones, as a result of imposed water stress, which caused damage was not permanent. Increase in phenolic content with decrease in O2-, H2O2 and lipid peroxidation was indication of the recovery of stress induced oxidative damage following the post stress rehydration. Further, the post drought recovery was enhanced by foliar spray of K, Ca, Mn & B. Differential activities of enzymes like SOD, CAT, POX, GR and PPO in response to foliar spray of nutrients in rehydrated plant improved the recovery process. The present study reveals that the tested nutrients (K, Ca, Mn & B) showed some positive response in influencing growth and antioxidative responses during post drought recovery process, where K and Ca showed comparatively better effect in improving post drought recovery potential in tea plant.
The Effect of Water Absorption on Mechanical Properties of Wood Flour/Wheat Husk Polypropylene Hybrid Composites  [PDF]

Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2012.35047
Abstract: The main objectives of this research were to study the effect of water absorption on mechanical properties of hybrid fiber reinforcement for polypropylene composites. The poor resistance towards water absorption is one of the draw- backs of natural fibers. Hybrid filler-polypropylene composites are subjected to water immersion tests in order to study the effects of water absorption on the mechanical properties. Composites specimens containing 30 phr and 40 phr fiber weight were prepared by melt blending process. Water absorption tests were conducted by immersion specimens in distilled water at room temperature for different time durations (24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144, 168, 192 hours). The tensile, flexural and impact properties were investigated before and after water absorption. The percentage of moisture uptake increased as the increasing order of the filler loading due to the high cellulose content. The phase morphology of wood flour/wheat husk polypropylene hybrid composites were investigated by SEM, the dynamic mechanical properties of the composite are analyzed by DMA & wheat, wood filler interaction are analyzed by FT-IR.
Investigation Into the Conductance, Micellization and Dissociation Behaviour of Terbium Caprylate and Caprate in 60/40 Benzene-methanol Mixture (v/v)

Portugaliae Electrochimica Acta , 2010,
Abstract: conductance measurements were employed to determine the critical micellar concentration, cmc, limiting molar conductance at infinite dilution, degree of dissociation and dissociation constant of terbium caprylate and caprate in 60/40 benzene-methanol (v/v). the results have shown that these soaps behave as a weak electrolyte in dilute solutions and debye-hückel-onsager’s equation is not applicable to these soap solutions. the thermodynamic parameters indicate that the micellization process is favoured over the dissociation process.

FKM Based Approach for Hybrid Video Segmentation
K. Mahesh,K. Kuppusamy
International Journal of Multimedia & Its Applications , 2012,
Abstract: In digital storage media, Video segmentation is one of the popular and important techniques. The challenging problem in digital storage media is video segmentation. In this hybrid video segmentation technique, initially similar shots are segmented. Then subsequently the track frames in every shot areassorted using the extracted objects of every frame which highly mostly reduces the processing time. Here it yields the effective video segmentation results by performing intersection on the segmented resultsprovided by both the frame difference method as well as consecutive frame intersection method. In frame difference method, it considers the key frame as background and it segments the dynamic objects whereas in the frame difference method, it segments the static and dynamic objects by intersection of objects in consecutive frames. This new hybrid video segmentation technique is developed using FKM clustering approach and is evaluated by varying video sequences and then efficiency is analyzed by calculating the statistical measures and kappa coefficient.
A New Hybrid Video Segmentation Algorithm using Fuzzy C Means Clustering
K. Mahesh,K. Kuppusamy
International Journal of Computer Science Issues , 2012,
Abstract: This paper is concerned with the development of video segmentation technique for segmenting both the static and dynamic objects in the video sequence. The effective extraction of objects from the frame is an important process of video segmentation. The proposed technique uses the fuzzy C means approach for object extraction. The proposed approach uses the joint use of frame difference algorithm with the background subtraction method as well as consecutive frame difference for segmentation of static and dynamic objects. The prior research used the FKM based object extraction method whereas the proposed approach uses the improved FCM based object extraction method. The proposed technique is evaluated by varying video sequences and the efficiency is analyzed by calculating the statistical measures and kappa coefficient.
